Champagne foals
are typically born looking like their basecoat color (chestnut, bay,
or black). Their champagne coat color can be seen once they shed
their foal coats.

While this filly is born
with a very dark, black-looking mane and tail, when she sheds
her foal coat, the black is replaced with chocolate and red
with gold.
