[Amber champagne mare grazes by her gold champagne foal]

Champagne foals are typically born looking like their basecoat color (chestnut, bay, or black). Their champagne coat color can be seen once they shed their foal coats.

Amber Champagne

While this filly is born with a very dark, black-looking mane and tail, when she sheds her foal coat, the black is replaced with chocolate and red with gold.

These photos show a young amber champagne in his foal coat, as he shed his foal coat, and as an adult. Notice the dramatic changes that take place.

Classic Champagne

These photos show a young classic champagne in her foal coat and as she sheds. Notice the dramatic changes that take place.

[Snip's Champagne Diva, Tennessee Walking Horse mare.]

While the foal and adult photos are not of the same horse, they are both classic champagnes by Champagne Look. Notice that the foal coat of the classic foal looks just like that of a black foal.

Note the deep red color of this gold champagne quarter horse colt. At left is his adult champagne color.
